First Post

Time is quickly fading for me here in the US. Only 55 days left. After that I will be heading overseas for 27 months to teach Amuhrican.

Keeping in fashion with being a government organization, Peace Corps has yet to inform me of my orientation city but that it will take place September 12-13th. The 14th I leave for Rwanda. During orientation I will mostly be vaccinated and assured that what I am going to do will be meaningful and informed again about Peace Corps' mission. The first three months in Rwanda will be training, learning the language(s) (Kinyarwanda/French?), and freaking out that every bug is poisonous and snakes are lurking behind every corner. Needless to say, I'm bringing a heavy duty mosquito net.

From there, who knows, certainly not me. Everything from where I will be staying, if I will have electricity, to what positions are best when going to the bathroom, are all up in the air ;) But that's part of the adventure. Not having my life planned out in detail brings with it the excitement that I am always looking for in my travels. I like researching a country and finding out what it has to offer but not plan out a daily itinerary. I keep saying that I want to plan more spontaneity in my life, that tomorrow I will do something random. Now's the chance to see it through to fruition.

In the meantime, I will continue to assemble a mess of random things I think will be useful, try to see as many of you as I can before I leave, and eat as much as I damn well please because I am going to suffer with the food selection in Africa. I guess I should consider myself lucky that I wasn't placed in the Pacific on some lonely island whose diet consists of coconuts and fish. Instead, rice and chicken, I welcome thee with open arms!
